Restoran Rebung Chef Ismail

The Rebung Restaurant I'm familiar with was in Bangsar. It is a favourite spot for many people seeking Malay cuisines especially during the fasting month of Ramadhan.

It turns out that the one in Perdana Botany Garden (fondly known as Lake Garden to Malaysians) is as popular as the one in Bangsar. I went on Saturday night and it was packed. The tables were too close to one another and people just had to bump into other people's chairs/tables, making it uncomfortable to enjoy the meal.

Taste - Good
Price - Fair. Buffet lunch RM40++ & buffet dinner RM50++ per pax
Ambiance - I'm not sure but it could be Malay home theme

Chef Ismail himself was sitting near the entrance when we arrived. This is unsurprising because he's memang hands-on and friendly liddat. We were ushered by one of the staff to a table reserved in the Red Room. The restaurant has a few rooms and many nooks and crannies so it can be a bit too overwhelming at peak hour.

The booking was made for 7 pax and we found the table set for 5 pax. Maybe the guests at the next table had helped themselves to the utensils and chairs.

The nice staff took our ala carte orders because only 2 of us chose the buffet. Food was prepared and arrived in acceptable time. The local drink sirap (syrup) was offered free-flow for all (buffet/ala carte) but we ordered our own preferred beverages anyway.

One of us ordered the signature Rebung Special Fried Rice but his photography skills sucks. Hence the shaky picture...

Come here with friends and family for casual lunch or dinner. Think typical Ramadhan buffet atmosphere. They promoted themselves as fine dining Malay cuisine but you'll be disappointed if you expect so.

If you're here for the buffet, be prepared for long queues at favourites like the grilled lamb chop stall.

NOT the place for classy and quiet dining/celebration.

Operating Hours

Saturday, Sunday & Public holidays : 0900 - 1600

Entrance Fee
FREE

You can find the museum easily using Google Map. There is no dedicated parking spots for the museum but there is a parking area for a supermarket and a mamak restaurant just next door. It was convenient for us because some in our party didn't want to go in. So they waited at the mamak restaurant while we went exploring and later, we had breakfast there together.

A guard handed me tickets even though there is no entrance fee. I guess it's how they record number of visitors.

As I was exploring the museum's ground, I realised that if we had this museum back when I was in school, learning about tin mining wouldn't have been so dull! Teachers should totally take their students here for school trip. This museum is full of artefacts and displays that could help students to better understand what it was like back in the mining days.

Not diorama. View from upstairs

The "trees" in the picture above aren't just for decoration. They are fossils. Check out their story at a corner situated in the top left part of the picture above.

Anyway, the area upstairs is full of documents on minings. Pretty boring to most people but quite informative if you know what to look for.

Kinta Tin Mining Museum

Kinta Tin Mining Museum may be small and in need of some maintenance but it is still worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.

I spent about an hour here. There is no wheelchair access for the mining documents gallery upstairs but the rest of the museum should be easily accessible. There is a small shop selling ice cream and drinks and there are toilets (but they didn't flush when I checked).

Massage Corner: The Best Massage Place in Ao Nang

Massage Corner

If you're looking for a decent massage place in Aonang, look no further than Massage Corner. To get there, get yourself to the halal street food area. Across the road, there is a junction going up a small hill. Walk up the hill until you find the signage above.

Turn into the parking lot and you'll see iRest. Massage Corner is tucked at the corner on your left.

Massage Corner Aonang
Look at the oh-so-affordable-rates!

On my first visit, I chose 1-hour back and neck massage for 300 THB. We were given cold water to drink while selecting a treatment and it wasn't a long wait before the treatment room was ready even though we didn't do any booking.

When I visited again, I chose a 1-hour foot massage for 250 THB. This time, we were taken to another room with massage beds that have hole. I wish I had this type of bed during back and neck massage earlier!

But no matter, I enjoyed both massages. The masseurs are well trained and know what they were doing and the massages helped to relieve my aching body & feet.

Klang Soi Seafood, Ao Nang

Klang Soi Seafood Ao Nang

On the second night, it was raining quite heavily. So after massage, we went to a place just across the road from the spa. We had late lunch and so we were still quite full but we wanted mango sticky rice.

Ao Nang Halal Street Food Revisited

Ao Nang Halal Street Food
Recommended

The first one (if you're coming from Ao Nang beach) serves good fried food at price from 50 THB. They don't really speak Malay or English so just point at the pictures. I asked for no vegetable but got a plateful anyway. Good thing it was delicious.

Ao Nang Halal Street Food
Tempura Squid
Another recommended item is the tempura squid on stick. The squid from the vendor in below pic cost 20 THB but they are kinda small. Another vendor sells bigger ones at 20 - 30 THB. Remember to try them!

Other food to try:
* Fruit shake (I like those from Isika but other places are good too)
* Mango Sticky Rice (also from Isika)
* Pancake fromYaminla
